Dances of Universal Peace

Portland Artist Network Event

The dances of Universal Peace are a form of multi-cultural folk dance dedicated towards one world, within and without. The Dances use sacred phrases, chants, music, and movements from many of the Earth's traditions with the aim to create in participants the living experience of unity.

The Dances were brought forth in their current form by Samuel L. Lewis, a Sufi Murshid (teacher) and Rinzai Zen master who was also steeped in the Hindu, Jewish, and Christian mystical traditions. He studied with spiritual mentors throughout the world. Among the traditions represented in the body of over 500 dances are the Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi, Jewish, Christian, Islamic, Zoroastrian, American Indian, Goddess, Celtic, and Universalist.
